Peru's First Vice-President Martin Vizcarra on Wednesday morning led the ceremony marking the 137th Anniversary of the Battle of Arica and the Renewal of the Oath of Fidelity to the National Flag.

The official act is held every June 7th and serves as means to commemorate national soldiers, who fought and died defending our homeland and national integrity during the War of the Pacific (1789-1883).

The event saw the presence of Defense Minister Jorge Nieto, as well as other authorities from the government branches.

Likewise, the activity was attended by Armed Forces Joint Command Chief Admiral Jose Luis Paredes Lora, as well as Commander Generals Luis Ramos Hume (Army), Gonzalo Rios Polastri (Navy) and Javier Ramirez Guillen (Air Force).

The ceremony took place at Lima's Bolognesi Square.

As is known, President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski on Tuesday traveled to Europe, where he will participate in a series of official activities.

In this sense, Vizcarra has taken over the presidential office while the top official is absent.
