The State-run National Commission for Development and Life without Drugs (Devida) transferred a S/.6.8 million (about US$1.88 million) fund to San Juan del Oro, Putina Punco and Alto Inambari's district municipalities to execute alternative development projects.

The said institutions belong to the Sandia province (Peru’s Southern Puno region).

According to Devida, resources will be allocated to carry three productive projects aimed at improving coffee and cocoa quality, boosting the production and transformation in the Puno Amazon.

The measure is intended to raise farmers' financial income, quality of life and thus reduce illegal coca crops.

3,506 families residing in Tambopata and Inambari valley’s 125 sectors will become the main beneficiaries thanks to the actions.

Likewise, more than 3,127,000 coffee seedlings and 179,000 cocoa saplings will be distributed to farmers.
