Peru: 13th World Heritage Cities Congress inaugurated at the Arequipa’s Main Square

The opening ceremony of the 13th World Congress of the Organization of World Heritage Cities (OWHC) took place at Arequipa's Main Square on Tuesday night.

The said gathering saw the participation of delegations and the Southern city residents.

The aforementioned ceremony was presided over by Arequipa provincial mayor Alfredo Zegarra. It will see the participation of over 180 delegations from cities declared World Heritage Sites.

The OWHC Secretary-General Denis Ricard stressed the beauty of the city and authorities' interest in preserving the historic center.

Professor at Laval University in Quebec (Canada) Charles Moumouni noted the population's desire to join lectures addressed to teenagers, teachers and journalists.

Conferences continue today at Cerro Juli Convention Center. The congress sees the participation of over 400 attendees from all over the world.

The event will run thru November 6, 2015.
