The technical committee “Sister States Advisory Board” has unanimously accepted and approved the candidacy of Piura Region of Peru to the Maryland Sister State Program.

At a meeting in the presence of the Maryland Deputy Secretary of State, the Peruvian Consulate in Washington D.C. presented to the committee that candidacy of the Piura Region, * its optimal situation for business and investment and complementarities and possible aspects of cooperation  with Maryland.

Formal approval will be received from Maryland Governor Larry Hogan over the course of next week.

The said program is intended to strengthen trade, agricultural, technological, educational and medical exchange in order to attain more wealth and development between the two cities.

The committee will also explore the possibility of creating business joint ventures, exchanging university teachers and students, and conducting medical missions.

The next step is a business visit –led by Maryland Secretary of State– to Piura, where the preliminary agreement “Friendship Agreement” will be signed.

Afterwards, Piura Regional Governor will be invited to pay a working visit to Maryland to ink the Sister State Agreement.
