Pacaya Samiria reserve in Peru nominated for Best Place for Wildlife

With almost 43 years of establishment, the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve, in Loreto region, has been nominated as one of the Best Places for Wildlife in the 10Best Readers' Choice Awards, competing with other 19 countries including, among others, China, India, Africa and Brazil.

The National Service of Natural Areas Protected by the State (Sernanp) pointed out Pacaya Samiria was nominated by USA Today Travel Media Group and the voting process will be open through Monday, February 9. 

This international competition will let the world know about this reserve located in the heart of the Amazon River, one of the seven natural wonders of the world, and which is the largest area of flooded forest in the Peruvian Amazon.

Its rich biological diversity, including over 1,000 species of animals and 965 of wild plants, is another of its highlights. 

It is home to some of the largest wildlife populations in the Amazon: pink and gray river dolphins, troops of howler monkeys, elusive sloths, flocks of brilliant macaws and bright butterflies.

Its also includes extensive swamps and forests that together create a unique scenic beauty found nowhere else in the world.
