After four years of government, more than 1,300,000 Peruvian nationals have escaped poverty and joined the country’s productive work force, Peruvian President Ollanta Humala said while addressing the nation on the occasion of the 194th Independence Day.
This was possible mainly due to the national strategy Incluir para Crecer (Include to Grow) and other social programs implemented by the government, which provide vulnerable peoples with the necessary tools to lift themselves out of poverty.
Speaking at the Congress headquarters, Mr. Humala said this great number of citizens who escaped poverty boosts the national economy in a solid and stable way, and even grows more rapidly than in larger countries such as Brazil and Mexico during times of economic uncertainty.
Humala Tasso recalled that since he took office his government has proposed to recover a fragmented country with a unifying calling, and such efforts have targeted every citizen, so that they all can feel part of the nation.
Such efforts are also intended to ensure the right access to quality education and health, to be respected at work, to receive a fair salary and to receive opportunities from the State to develop their skills.
He underlined that after three years of creation Cuna Mas program has assisted more than 315,000 boys and girls at the national level, mainly in rural areas and among the scattered population.
People are supported to develop their skills, and the figure is expected to grow by 166,569 additional kids next year.
