Secretary Generals of the Organization of Ibero-American States (OEI) and the Union of South American Nations (Unasur) Paulo Speller and Ernesto Samper, respectively, will take part in the international seminar on educational policies and human rights, to be held in Lima on December 3.

According to organizers, Peru will be represented by Justice Minister Aldo Vasquez and Deputy Minister of Pedagogical Management Flavio Figallo.

International experts will debate on how education helps build societies that respect fundamental rights such as safety and freedom; as well as basic rights like employment, access to water, housing or respect for minority cultures.

The event is organized by OEI and Fundacion SM, with the support of Unasur and Peruvian Ministries of Education and Justice and Human Rights.

“Human rights education can help us heal social wounds such as mistrust, fragility of institutions, weak awareness of public space or violent solution to conflicts, which lead to a damaged society in urgent need of a solid and inclusive democracy,” OEI Director of Peru Jose Hernandez de Toro said.

Hence the need to increase quality of education, not only to prepare the youth to be competitive and work ready, but above all, to be responsible citizens aware of their rights.
