The President of the National Society of Industries (SNI), Luis Salazar, exhorted new regional governments to take action to tackle red tape and reduce bureaucracy that hinders the timely execution of investments in the country’s inner regions.

“We need to engage in a head-on attack against 'red tape' to speed up the development process so that progress can be much faster,” he told Andina news agency.

Nowadays, red tape is the main impediment to economic development in the country and, therefore, to the development of people.

To this end, Salazar invoked newly-elected governors and the different sectors of the State to be aware of the harm the bureaucratic formalities can cause in order to facilitate private investment.

“When we do not allow investment and industry grow, we actually delay progress, the creation of formal jobs and wage improvements,” he added.
