The opening of a permanent embassy of Peru in Hanoi will boost economic ties, trade and development cooperation with Vietnam, the Andean country's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has said.
In a press release, the ministry said that Vietnam is one of the economies with the highest growth rates in Southeast Asia and has a major concern of investment in Peru.
According to an article on Vietnamnetve, Vietnam has had investment projects in this country in the field of oil and gas and telecommunications.
In March this year, the Peruvian government decided to open its embassy in Hanoi. To carry out the necessary procedures, a Peruvian diplomat will be the Chargé d’affaires in Vietnam from August 1.
The announcement also said that Peru will share its embassy in Hanoi with Colombia, which in turn will share its newly-opened embassy in Ghana with Peru.
Vietnam and Peru established diplomatic relations in 1994. Trade turnover between the two countries in the past 5 years has increased three folds to $180 million in 2012.
