The Ministry of Energy and Mines approved the Environmental Impact Assessment of the project “Exploitation and Mining Pampa del Pongo” to be developed in the Caraveli province (Arequipa).

The project means an US$ 1.840 billion worth investment.

The Ministry of Energy and Mines approved the EIA project issued by Jinzhao Mining Peru.

According to calculations, during the construction stage of the mine, some 3,294 people will be hired.
When operations begin, some 1,256 people will be required.

The port will promote labor work for 450 people during its construction, and 50 people for the operation and maintenance.

The EIA has a “favorable opinion” from the General Direction of Environment Affairs General Direction of the Ministry of Agriculture (Minagri), the National Water Authority (ANA), the General Direction of the Socio Environmental Affairs of the Ministry of Transports and Communications; and the General Environmental Health direction.

According to projections, some 98,300 iron ore tons will be produced every day.

The annual production set a 22.5 million tons per year goal.

In order to provide enough water, a sea water desalinization plant will be built.
