A moderate earthquake measuring 3.9 on the Richter scale jolted the coastal city of Nazca in southern Peru’s Ica region on Monday morning.
Peru’s Geophysical Institute, or IGP, said the tremor struck at 09:14 local time (14:14 GMT) and was unnoticed by residents.

The quake’s epicenter was located at 85 kilometers (52.8 miles) east of Nazca, while it depth was measured at 71 kilometers (44.1 miles).

According to Civil Defense authorities, there have been no reports of damage or injury so far from the quake.

Peru lies in the so-called “Pacific Ring of Fire”, which is the site of 85 percent of global seismic activity caused by friction between shifting tectonic plates.
