Perurail —railroad operator of southern and southeastern Peru— said local and tourist train services will be available only on the Ollantaytambo-Machu Picchu-Hydroelectric Plant route due to heavy rainfall.
This measure has come into effect from January 3 and will remain in force until April 30.
This change was implemented after Ferrocarril Transandino (FTSA) —concessionaire of the railroad in southern Peru— notified PeruRail about the suspension of train operations on the Cusco–Pachar line during the rainy season.
According to the FTSA notification, the temporary suspension is to ensure safe train operations, due to potential landslides in Pomatales ravine.
For its part, the baggage and cargo service will continue running from San Pedro Station (Cusco region) during the rainy season and if train operations in Pomatales ravine are not affected by weather conditions.
The said service will operate on a regular schedule given the need to bring products from Cusco.
