Lima among candidates to host N7W of Nature ceremony

The capital city of Lima might become the Official Host for the Declaration of the New 7 Wonders of Nature ceremony to be held in 2011, said event organizer New 7 Wonders Foundation.

The Peruvian capital and other world cities have been elected as candidates to host the "World's Largest" event in 2011.

Candidates include Buenos Aires (Argentina), Tokyo (Japan), Shanghai (China), Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), Seoul (South Korea), Santiago (Chile), Las Vegas (United States), Manila (Philippines) Genoa (Italy), Monterrey (Mexico), Montevideo (Uruguay), Sofia (Bulgaria), Rome (Italy), Montreal (Canada), among others.

On its website, the New 7 Wonders Foundation gives the possibility to recommend other locations to host the ceremony, and promised to consider the suggestions.

The choice of Official Host will be based on the passion and interest of the people, and the national decision-makers and media of the country required to be considered the centre of the world.

The New 7 Wonders Foundation honored the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu as one of the seven wonders of the modern world in July 2007.

According to the latest ranking, Lake Titicaca, a nomination shared by Peru and Bolivia, takes the No. 1 spot in Group F of the New Seven Wonders of Nature race.

Other Peruvian nominees include the Amazon River which ranks second in Group E (Forests, National Parks and Nature Reserves); while Colca Canyon, located in the Andean department of Arequipa, is in fourth place of Group D (Caves, Rock Formations and Valleys).
