Peru's Transport and Communications Minister Bruno Giuffra said Jorge Chavez International Airport expansion works are slated to start in December this year and be completed by 2022.
"Works must begin in December, after infrastructure and architecture issues are resolved," he told local Canal N news station.
The second runway has to be ready in four years, and the new terminal will be completed a year later, that is in 2022.
"We are waiting for a mere formality: an email with an attached file, from New York […]," he was quoted as saying.
According to the minister, all the barriers have been removed after 12 years.
"The State has freed up lands and removed [under-floor] obstructions like water and gas pipes over the past 12 years," he continued.
Delivering the lands was quite an obstacle, he admitted, since it's not always fast despite the parties' willingness to do so. However, everything is clear now.
It must be noted the project involves an additional 10-year extension of the
Lima airport concession agreement.
