The construction of Lambayeque’s maritime terminal would entail an investment of between US$300 million and US$500 million and the bidding process will begin by the end of this year, Lambayeque’s governor Humberto Acuña estimated.

In statements to Andina news agency, Acuña explained the maritime terminal would be located at the Port of Eten and informed the Regional Government of Lambayeque (GRL) has already approved the Regional Master Plan with S/.3 million (about US$960,000) of investment.

The plan was passed by the National Port Authority (APN) and was submitted to the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) to be included into the National Ports Project.

GRL has received a private initiative, in which one Peruvian, one Colombian and two Italian companies have included an investment proposal that has been observed by APN; observations will have to be resolved by the consortium.

Acuña said he is confident the Peruvian State, through the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF), will pass the plan.

This seaport terminal will allow northern Peru businessmen to reduce transport costs of their products to Paita and Callao ports, for instance.

“If transporting products from northern Peru, for example, Lambayeque, entails higher costs, operating costs will increase by 30%,” he said.
