For the second straight week, Lake Titicaca in Puno takes the No. 1 spot in Group F of the New Seven Wonders of Nature campaign, according to the latest ranking of contest organizer, the New 7 Wonders Foundation.

Lake Titicaca, a nomination shared by Peru and Bolivia, is being supported by authorities from both countries.

On Friday, Bolivian authorities held a special voting day in La Paz with more than 500 computers and 300 Internet booths.

Other Peruvian nominees include the Amazon River which ranks second in Group E (Forests, National Parks and Nature Reserves).

While Colca Canyon, located in the Andean department of Arequipa, is in fourth place of Group D (Caves, Rock Formations and Valleys).

People can vote for their chosen seven from the list of 261 qualified nominees until July 7, 2009.

The top 77 nominees by group categories (the top 11 in each of the seven groups) will be eligible for consideration by the New7Wonders of Nature Panel of Experts, under the leadership of Prof. Federico Mayor, former Director-General of UNESCO.

The selection will be announced on 21 July 2009, and the 21 Official Finalists will then enter the third and final phase to vote and choose the Official New7Wonders of Nature.
