The upcoming meeting between Peru's President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski and U.S. counterpart Donald Trump will serve to strengthen the bilateral relationship and open up new cooperation horizons, Peruvian Ambassador to Washington D.C. Carlos Pareja affirmed.

"The bilateral relationship is solid. It comprises many topics of high relevance and is characterized by mutual understanding between the two countries," Mr. Pareja told Andina news agency.

"The presidential conversation will lead to strengthening friendship ties and the strategic partnership between both nations," he pointed out.

According to the diplomat, the gathering will be essential for Mr. Kuczynski and Mr. Trump to meet in person, and thus open up a channel for dialogue in favor of the interests of the two nations.

Economic growth, fight against drug-trafficking and democratic principles stand out among main topics of interest for both countries.

One essential affair for Peru is the existing Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with the U.S., which has a positive effect on Peruvian exports and economy.

"It would be enriching for both Heads of State to listen to each other's political points of view and perspectives," he added.

President Kuczynski will meet U.S. counterpart Donald Trump at the White House on February 24 at 3:00 PM.

The leaders will address bilateral agenda topics related to economic growth and the strengthening of democracy across the region.
