President-Elect Pedro Pablo Kuczynski proposes that Inti Raymi celebration be declared Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO given its uniqueness.

Kuczynski attended the Two Worlds Encounter, a ceremony featuring both the Tahuantinsuyo ruler and the current leader of the country; in this case, the meeting took place between Cusco’s Mayor Carlos Moscoso and the President-Elect.

Nivardo Carrillo, who played the part of the Inca, entered Cusco’s Main Square on the shoulders of his subjects. His priests predicted good times and a bountiful harvest during a brief coca leaf reading ceremony.

The Inca told his high priest to award a quipu to Carlos Moscoso and Pedro Pablo Kuczynski —who attended the observance for the first time.

At the end, Kuczynski said it was a beautiful and special celebration, and stressed the participation of locals.

After that, the Inca’s entourage headed to the archaeological site of Sacsayhuaman, where the Inti Raymi ceremony is set to continue.

Meanwhile, the President-Elect gets ready to meet regional and local governors from all over the country.
