Renowned Peruvian tenor Juan Diego Florez will give a benefit concert aimed at collecting funds for natural disaster victims.

As is known, the Andean country was recently at the mercy of "Coastal El Niño" phenomenon characterized by heavy rains, landslides and floods. They destroyed infrastructure and crops, as well as left many citizens homeless.

"Florez was deeply touched by the disaster images he saw on television, so he decided to do something about it," his local representative Miguel Molinari stated.

The gig will be held at Lima's National Stadium on July 1st.

On that night, the artist will perform a series of Peruvian songs, which had never been sung by him before.

The event will include a special appearance by children and youth from Symphony for Peru's orchestra and choir. Thus, a total of 400 young musicians will join the tenor with their instrumental performance abilities, energy and voices.

The cast also includes musicians and dancers, who will bring rhythms and dances from every region of Peru to the stage.

Likewise, the 34,000 tickets to the musical gathering are expected to sell out fast. Prices range between S/33 (about US$10.08) and S/315 (about US$96.30).

The money raised will be given to Peru's State-run National Civil Defense Institute (Indeci).

The artist

Juan Diego Florez was born in Lima on January 13, 1973. His father, Ruben, was a singer of Peruvian folk and Creole music. His mother, Maria Teresa, encouraged him to persevere in his music studies.

The Peruvian national is recognized as one of the greatest tenors in the world, which makes him the main Ambassador of Peru's country brand abroad.

He received an ovation from the audience while performing British song "Rule Britannia" —in an Inca-styled costume— at the closing of UK's BBC Proms 2016: The World's Greatest Classical Music Festival.

On the occasion, he also performed a medley of Latino rhythms, getting smiles and a thunderous applause while signing Piel Canela, Mucho Corazon, Guantanamera and Yerberito, the popular songs that made him "feel at home."

The British network noted the phenomenal performance of Florez. His performance was seen by millions of TV viewers.

Florez, 44, is also one of the few artists who has filled the iconic Royal Albert Hall with his voice. This prestigious stage has been taken by acclaimed artists like Luciano Pavarotti, Placido Domingo, Sarah Brightman, Bryan Terfel and Simon Rattle, among others.

He is currently the father of two children and married to Julia Trappe.
