His Majesty King Abdullah II on Sunday visited a number of archaeological and historical sites in Peru, just before the start of the third summit of South American and Arab Countries (ASPA) which opens Monday.

King Abdullah visited Machu Picchu site, which has been recently added to the Seven Wonders of the World.

The King was welcomed by locals and officials who appreciated His Majesty's visit, according to Jordan's official Petra news agency.

His Majesty King Abdullah will take part in the third summit of South American and Arab Countries (ASPA), scheduled to start on Monday in Peru.

On Tuesday, the King will deliver Jordan's address at the summit and meet with Peruvian President, Ollanta Humala Tasso, and a number of heads of participating delegations.

The summit will discuss the Syrian crisis, the Palestinian issue, efforts to achieve peace and the status of Jerusalem and the holy sites, namely the main issues raised by the King in his speech before the United Nations General Assembly.

The summit, which aims to promote a culture of peace and development, is a forum for political coordination between the Arab world and South America, and a mechanism to promote cooperation in the fields of economy, culture, education, science and technology, environmental protection and tourism.
