In the next five years, Peru's National Plan for Productive Diversification (PNDP) will pose a major impact on poverty reduction across the country's interior, announced Javier Herrera Director at the French Institute for Development Research (IRD).

"PNDP is likely to have a positive impact on poverty reduction in the next five-year period; thus, it is relevant for the upcoming administration to continue with its implementation," Herrera told Andina news agency.

As is known, PNDP seeks to create new growth engines to diversify and modernize the economy by reducing dependence on raw material exports and instead boosting productivity and formal job creation aimed to reach sustainable long-term growth.

Days ago, the officer noted social programs' influence on poverty decrease accounted for 61% of the result. The remaining 39% was supported by economic growth.

Poverty was reduced by 0.96 percentage point in 2015 (from 22.73% to 21.77%).
