The Indian pharmaceutical sector sees Peru as an important ally given the nation’s strategic location in the region.

Thus, the South American country is considered a "hub" or center par excellence for the distribution of pharmacological products in Latin America.

According to representatives of Pharmaceuticals Export Promotion Council of India (Pharmexcil), India exports were worth US$41 million, only in the period from April 2014 to January 2015. Bulk drugs, formulations, herbs, among others are increasing by nearly 18%.

This interest emerged after the Peru-India Pharmaceutical Sector Seminar and Business Roundtable was held. It had been organized by the Lima Chamber of Commerce (CCL) and Pharmexcil.

As it is well known, drugs produced in India are intended to fight deadly illnesses. Thus, it was estimated that 70% of patients reside in 87 developing countries.

In this sense, they will receive or be treated with medicine produced by the Indian pharmaceutical sector, thanks to support provided by United Nations Children Fund (Unicef), the International Dispensary Association (IDA), the Global Fund and the Clinton Foundation.
