India is looking to conclude a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with Peru as soon as possible, Indian Ambassador to Peru Sandeep Chakravorty announced.

“When I was in New Delhi, all the government officials told me they were going to step up the pace on the completion of this agreement, so that it can be implemented as soon as possible,” he was quoted as saying by Andina news agency.

He said Indian authorities really hope to begin the negotiation on a FTA with Peru and hope not to find major difficulties during the talks.

It should be noted Peru’s feasibility studies group will travel to New Delhi in August in order to hold a meeting with their Indian counterpart and complete the work right away to start the negotiation process.

According to the Lima Chamber of Commerce (CCL), Peru-India trade exchange increased to US$ 1.15 billion in 2014, of which US$876 million account for Peruvian purchases in the Indian market and UU$ 321 million account for national exports.
