The National Plan for Productive Diversification, an effort made by our country to boost exports, will enable Peru to increase its growth potential without depending on external conditions, indicated the IMF Mission Chief for Peru, Ana Corbacho.
This is a very important strategy, since in the past decade Peru’s growth was boosted due to the increase in commodity prices, particularly metals.
“Embarking on export and production diversification in Peru would allow the country to not depend on external conditions and expand its growth potential in a more difficult scenario,” she told Andina news agency.
Corbacho explained the increased metal prices scenario is expected to change over the next years.
“For this reason, it is necessary to leverage the growth by redirecting the activity to those sectors that do not depend on raw materials,” he concluded.
