Peru is no longer the "country of the future" as it has grabbed the future with the measures taken in the last decade, said International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director Christine Lagarde.

“Peru is no longer the proverbial “country of the future”—it is the “country of the present,” Lagarde stated as she opened the plenary sessions.

She cited Peru as one of the fastest-growing economies in Latin America in the last few years.

Prosperity in Peru

“The Andean nation has the chance to unlock its immense potential and create greater prosperity for all Peruvians,” she was quoted as saying.

However, the IMF chief said the country has to address new challenges resulting from the uncertainty over the global economy. “This is a time of change. Old paradigms no longer hold, new economic relationships emerge.”

Cesar Vallejo

She said it is time to embrace new opportunities. “Someone who captured this spirit is the great Peruvian poet Cesar Vallejo: ‘Brothers, there is still so much to do.’ Indeed, brothers and sisters there is much to do.”
