Peru has received a score of 9.9 out of 10 for its economic management over the last 25 years, as it moved from hyperinflation in the nineties to the lowest inflation in Latin America, IMF Resident Representative for Peru Alejandro Santos affirmed.

"I would give it a score of 9.9 and this is something people do not realize. I feel there is a wave of pessimism out there; I see people jumping from euphoria to depression in just a matter of time everywhere, but Peru of today is the same of last year and it will remain the same next year," he said.

Santos said political noise and shocks are "everywhere," but we should not lose sight of economic foundations, because our country has a "very strong macroeconomic policy with a huge natural resources base."

"I would like to highlight the success of Peru, which has not received sufficient emphasis. We, who come from outside, wrote a book with Peruvian authorities on a review of the economy’s success in the past 25 years, when it moved from hyperinflation in the early 1990s to the lowest inflation in Latin America in the last decade", he said.

According to the IMF official, who edited the book entitled "Peru: Staying the Course of Economic Success," the country has achievements "that are not deemed as minor", since it shifted from a shrinking economy to a growing and healthy one.
