Peru’s GDP, which stood at 3.26% in July, will continue to increase this year and even pick up more speed in 2016, which places Peru as one of the strongest economies in the Western Hemisphere, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) reported today.

During the presentation of the book entitled “Peru: Staying the Course of Economic Success,” the Director of the Western Hemisphere Department at the IMF Alejandro Werner explained the region will face Chinese economy uncertainty in the following months.

The region will also deal with the consequences of the US Federal Reserve (Fed) decision in relation to a possible rise in US interest rates.

Peru on the Path to Success

“Peru embraced greater fiscal stimulus and the primary sector experienced an upturn in the last months, and will continue to do so and even pick up more speed in 2016,” he stated.

The region faces different risks such as the accumulation of foreign currency debt, in an environment where such debt slows down and Peru emerges as one of the strongest economies.

Peruvian Economic History

The said book, which offers a complete picture of the Peruvian economy covering the country’s trajectory from the 1980s until now, was written by renowned Peruvian economists and IMF staff.

“It is an important work including remarkable analytical contributions and valuable documentation and information that we have rarely seen in departments from our member countries,” he pointed out.
