The International Labour Organization (ILO)'s Office for Andean Countries, through the Financial Actuarial Study 2015, highlighted the progress made by Peru's Health Ministry (Minsa) in providing healthcare to more Peruvian citizens, Minsa’s head Anibal Velasquez announced.
He explained that resources allocated to Minsa's Comprehensive Health Insurance (SIS) went from S/560 (about US$164.5 million) in 2011 to S/1.7 billion (about US$499.5 million) in 2016.
"Nowadays, SIS provides a comprehensive health coverage to 16,940,854 citizens," Velasquez stressed.
SIS aims Peruvians lacking health insurance, and prioritizes vulnerable people living in poverty and extreme poverty conditions.
Likewise, ILO recognized Minsa actions taken to reduce the gaps in healthcare services by extending service hours at hospitals and establishments, mainly on services where demand is highest.
