An earthquake measuring 4.2 on the Richter scale hit the Paucar del Sara Sara province in Peru's southern Ayacucho region late Monday.
The tremor occurred at 22:22 hours (03:22 GMT) and went unnoticed by the majority of residents, according to Peru’s Geophysical Institute (IPG).
The quake’s epicenter was located at 46 kilometers (28.58 miles) north of Colta district, at a depth of 113 kilometers (70.21 miles).
According to Civil Defense authorities, there have been no reports of damage or injury so far from the quake.
Peru lies in the so-called “Pacific Ring of Fire”, which is the site of 85 percent of global seismic activity caused by friction between shifting tectonic plates.
