Ica was the largest exporting region in Peru with shipments valued at US$1,37 billion in the first four months of 2014, fueled by higher exports of non-traditional products, Peruvian Association of Exporters (Adex) reported.
According to ADEX, Ica's star products were grapes, asparagus and avocados. The largest export destinations of these products were China (US$387.8 million), United States (US$ 333.7 million), Colombia (US$ 142.2 million), Japan ( US$85.4 million) and the Netherlands ( US$ 68.9 million).

However, Ica's exports fell 12.3 percent between January and April this year, due to lower shipments of products from the country's traditional sector such as gasoline, iron, tin, copper and propane gas.

Peru's second largest exporting region in the reported period was Ancash, with exports amounting to US$ 1,26 billion, a 18.3 percent increase over the period a year earlier, due to higher shipments of primary products.

China ( US$ 837.2 million), Alemania (US$ 104.2 million) and Chile (US$ 65.4 million) were the main export destinations for Ancash's products.

Meanwhile, Piura was the third largest exporting region in the January-April period with shipments valued at US$1,06 million, up 9.2 percent compared with the same period a year earlier, followed by Arequipa, whose shipments amounted to US$ 955.7 million, down 13.3 percent.
