German President pays official visit to Peru today

German President Joachim Gauck will arrive in Lima today for an official visit to Peru that involves a series of activities including a meeting with his Peruvian counterpart Ollanta Huamala Tasso.

According to a German Embassy source, Gauck and his delegation will arrive this afternoon in the Callao-based Air Group 8 complex, located right next to International Airport Jorge Chavez.

The welcoming ceremony will be chaired by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gonzalo Gutierrez, and will see the participation of State Ceremonial and Protocol Director Alberto Gálvez de Rivero.

Also welcoming Gauck will be Peruvian Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany, José Antonio Meier, and German Ambassador to Peru, Joerg Ranau.

Gauck, who will be received in audience by President Humala at the Lima's Government Palace on Friday, is scheduled to visit the Place of Memory on March 21.

He is also due to meet representatives of different civil associations and make a trip to Ayacucho city, a south Andean area where Germany has paid special attention to cooperation in development.

While in Lima, the German leader will visit the facilities of National Service for Industrial Training – SENATI, an example of Peruvian-German cooperation in the environment field.
