Renowned Peruvian chef, Gaston Acurio, said the culinary industry in Peru has not been affected by the 2014 economic downturn due to its rising reputation around the world.

“The Peruvian gastronomy has managed to carve out an important image all over the world. This in some way protects us from the ups and downs that the Peruvian economy might be going through temporarily,” he pointed out.

On the contrary, he said, the economic slowdown is an opportunity the sector has to take to double its investment.

“I think downturn may be lessened with conviction rather than lack of faith in the future, and businessmen have to face the consequences, set an example and double the investment of previous difficult moments if easier,” he added.

He also noted Peruvians cooks have shown throughout the years that, despite the crisis and circumstances, they opt for and invest in Peru.
