Peruvian President Ollanta Humala affirmed that Gasoducto Sur Peruano (GSP) will supply up to 13 cities, so that the neediest populations can access clean and economic energy.

While addressing the nation, Mr. Humala recalled the government awarded in June 2014 a concession to build a megaproject that will run from Cusco to its more southern coast cities including, among others, Arequipa, Moquegua, Tacna and Puno.

“Concessions for the distribution of gas in six high Andean regions and one jungle region, Ucayali, will have been awarded by the end of the year, and we estimate gas will be supplying 13 cities by 2017,” he stated.

The gas pipeline will benefit the following cities: Abancay, Andahuaylas, Huamanga, Huanta, Huancavelica, Jauja, Huancayo, Cusco, Juliaca, Puno, Quillabamba, Pucallpa and Padre Abad.

He said GSP is currently under construction. “I am satisfied that the most disadvantaged families will be able to get clean and economic energy.”

When it comes to building an inclusive, modern, integrated and promising nation –which is about to celebrate its bicentenary– we cannot stop promoting energy exploitation and distribution that moves our transportation and boosts our industry.

“The energy of this new Peru is undoubtedly our natural gas and we have made significant efforts towards its widespread increase in the short and medium term; first of all, we have managed to recover Camisea’s Block 88 reserves for national consumption," he said.

According to the Head of State, this gas will supply the country “for more than 20 years.”
