Peru’s Minister of Energy and Mines (MEM), Eleodoro Mayorga Alba, provided the public opinion information on the bid drawn by Proinversion for Gaseoducto Sur Peruano (GSP) gas pipeline and assured the project is already under way and will soon be a reality.
MEM’s head said the bidding process has been solid and transparent. A total of 20 companies were convened, which later formed two consortiums of seven companies that made it to the final stage.
“We all know that one of the consortiums was disqualified for trying to make last-minute changes to its legal statements and for, therefore, violating the bidding terms,” Mayorga stated.
Regarding the previous project (Gasoducto Sur Andino) -initiated by the outgoing administration- he said it was not consistent with the national interest; that is why the current administration had to update it and improve it, which explains why it is “different and better.”
“The total cost of service was estimated at US$7.3 million. This includes not only the investment, as was the previous project’s case, but the operation and maintenance costs, income taxes, among others, for the next 30 years,” he noted.
The minister made it clear the initial project reserves are available from block 88, not block 58.
