A total of 1,862,900 foreign tourists arrived at Cusco city's lodgings in 2015; the figure accounts for a 10.7% increase from the previous year, Peru’s Central Reserve Bank revealed.

According to a report issued by its Cusco-based branch, U.S. travelers account for the majority of visitors (481,100). The figure denotes a 13.8% growth.

American nationals are followed by citizens of Argentina (95,900, up by 20.9%); England (103,600, 16.3%) and France (126,300, 12%).

Foreign tourist arrivals to Machu Picchu expanded at an annual rate of 8% in the first two-month period of 2016 and led to 125,888 visitors.

Some 68,705 national vacationists landed in the ancient citadel during the said period, an 18.9% increase.
