Peru stands out in the international context given its economic soundness and responsibility, Foreign Affairs Minister Ana Maria Sanchez affirmed.
"Peru stands out in the world due to its soundness and responsible economic behavior," she told El Peruano official newspaper.
Therefore, she highlighted the fact that the Annual Meetings of the Boards of Governors of the World Bank Group (WBG) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) will be organized and held in Lima. Such event rarely takes place outside Washington D.C., she noted.
“International organizations [representatives] and all governors will arrive; [from] more than 100 countries, over 10,000 visitors. This is a historical meeting,” the Chancellor underlined.
Spain & Peru relations
The Head of the Foreign Affairs Ministry reminded Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy considered Peru a "serious, safe and reliable country."
In this sense, she said the official visit President Humala paid to Madrid last week was "very positive", since business-related, political and cultural activities were carried out in this framework.
"In the meetings President Ollanta Humala held with his Spanish counterpart, Mariano Rajoy, and King Felipe VI, the excellent status of bilateral relations between the nations was highlighted. That's why it was agreed to count on a strengthened strategic partnership," the diplomat expressed.
"For example, one of the agreements Peru and Spain signed was based on sharing diplomatic facilities abroad," she expressed.
“This opportunity gives us many possibilities for representation [in foreign nations], which are usually limited due to budgetary matters,” Sanchez added.
Likewise, she pointed out Spain emphasized the Peruvian integration into the Pacific Alliance and the sustained growth the country has experienced despite the international crisis.
"Europeans consider this commercial bloc is a distinct and a unique integration process," the Minister highlighted.
Pacific Alliance
The Pacific Alliance is an economic bloc composed of countries, Mexico, Colombia, Chile and Peru.
It seeks to achieve the free circulation of people, goods and services within the bloc with the aim of achieving well-being for the countries' corresponding populations.
In this sense, the Chancellor said "President Humala has requested [us Ministers] to meet at least once a month, in order to continue making progress because the next Pacific Alliance Presidential meeting is to be held in the framework of the General Assembly of the United Nations in New York by the end of September."
International Summits
“The President will attend the ‘United Nations Summit to adopt the Post-2015 Development Agenda’ event, to be held this year," the Chancellor stated.
Likewise, Peru will participate in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum, where the Philippines will assume the bloc Presidency.
Schengen Visa
This year, Peru and Colombia signed an agreement with the European Union aimed at allowing both nations' citizens to enter the Schengen Area for tourism purposes without the need to have previously applied for a visa.
As well, she forecasted the Schengen visa obligation removal should be ready by October.
