The National Plan for Productive Diversification (PNDP) will help create productive jobs for residents of Peru's most-remote areas; thus, it will favorably impact on poverty and extreme poverty reduction, Economy and Finance Minister Alonso Segura affirmed.

As is known, PNDP seeks to create new growth engines to diversify and modernize the economy by reducing dependence on raw material exports and instead boosting productivity and formal job creation aimed to reach sustainable long-term growth.

"PNDP will be essential to reduce poverty, since it will help create productive jobs for people from the most-remote areas of the country; likewise, it will provide them with opportunities they did not rely on," he told Andina news agency.

Since 2011, the Peruvian Government has more than tripled the Production Ministry’s budget to implement PNDP, which confirms the "strong commitment to a such never-before-seen strategy in the nation."

Figures

According to Monetary Poverty indicators released a couple days ago, poverty decreased by 0.96 percentage points and went from 22.73% (2014) to 21.77% (2015).

In 2015, over 60% of poverty reduction was explained due to the "Include to Grow" strategy, which "has had a strong impact on rural areas of Peru," the minister affirmed.

Segura stressed Peruvian social programs' effectiveness.

"In this sense, poverty would have increased if the said programs had not been implemented," he affirmed.
