Expoalimentaria Fair 2014 closed deals worth US$730mn

Regional producers and international buyers closed deals worth US$730 million during this year's edition of Expoalimentaria Fair, which took place from August 27-29, said Gaston Pacheco, president of the Association of Exporters (ADEX).

The initial expectation was to generate business worth US$ 700 million, a goal that was by far exceeded. Last year's deals amounted to US$620 million.

"This fair has generated a great business opportunity for Peruvian companies which will allow them to enter new markets."Pacheco said during the closing press conference of the trade show.

ADEX's top official  noted that this year's edition of the fair was attended by 2,596 foreign visitors while 22,000 national buyers were also present at the event. 

He explained that 40% of the international visitors came from South America, mainly from Argentina and Chile while 30% of them came from North America, 20% from Europe and the remaining from other parts of the world.

Moreover, he pointed out that more than 530 business appointments had taken place withinthe first and a half days of the fair with a variety of products such as coffee, quinoa, avocados, aguaymanto, fruits, sauces and cereals.

It is worth mentioning that potential international buyers attending the fair include Walmart, Shanghai Fruitday (China), Supermarkets Tiv-Taam (Israel), Foodya Foods (South Korea), Ekovista Oy (Finland), FTD Food Solutions (Australia) Export Packers (Canada), among others.
