European Union (EU) companies are interested in joining the Reconstruction with Changes process through infrastructure works and machinery sales, EU Ambassador to Peru Diego Mellado pointed out Tuesday.

As is known, Peruvian State-run Reconstruction with Changes program is aimed at refurbishing areas damaged by "Coastal El Niño" phenomenon between January and March this year.

"The Reconstruction with Changes plan is an opportunity for European enterprises to invest in Peru, through infrastructure construction, machinery exports, and technical advice," he told Andina news agency.

It is worth mentioning the plan entails a total investment of S/25.656 billion (about US$7.908 billion) for the coming three years in diverse fields, but mainly in infrastructure.

Machinery exports

According to European Commission Commercial Counselor Felipe Palacios, Peru's machinery imports from Europe will expand during the Reconstruction with Changes process.

Likewise, he forecast Peru-EU bilateral trade will remain in positive territory.

It must be noted the European Union is Peru's third-largest trade partner after China and the United States.

Moreover, bilateral trade reached €8.7 billion (about US$10.21 billion) in 2016, thus registering an 11% decrease if compared to 2012.
