Ecuador’s President Rafael Correa claimed that bilateral relations with Peru and Colombia are at their best moment ever as a result of the so called binational cabinets held since 2007.

These cabinets are a breath of fresh air, said the leader regarding each of the meetings he had with his Colombian and Peruvian counterparts Juan Manuel Santos and Ollanta Humala, in Cali and Jaen, respectively.

According to Correa, who addressed the issue on Saturday during his traditional weekly work report, such working mechanisms that involve the participation of ministers have improved the quality of life of citizens living in border regions.

In this regard, he cited as an example how Colombian farmers use Ecuador electric power given that his government cannot reach areas bordering the dividing line.

After pointing out that 97% of bilateral agreements signed with Bogota in 2014 have been complied with, he continued to say that the fourth binational cabinet held last week addressed other 90 cooperation goals for 2016, according to Prensa Latina.

Speaking from Zumbahua, Correa also noted Colombia and Peru’s support to Ecuador in its attempt to secure a trade agreement with the European Union, which he noted, is not a Free Trade Agreement.
