Day 8 of FIFA World Cup action kicks off with high expectations

Japan are set to face Greece on Thursday night

Groups C and D are back in action Thursday at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, beginning with Colombia taking on Ivory Coast at Estadio Nacional in Brasilia.
In the first of today's three matches, Ivory Coast and Colombia will meet up at noon in the 2014 World Cup, sending the winner on to the round of 16.

Ivory Coast had one of the most impressive victories in the opening rounds in a 2-1 win over Japan. Not because they played great the entire game, but because they scored twice within 99 seconds to seal the victory and break Japan’s hearts.

Meanwhile, Colombia has a good chance to become the first South American team to advance past the group stages since 1990. They took a huge step forward in the first match with a 3-0 win over Greece. Thus, Jose Pekerman's side looks to secure their berth in the knockout stage with a victory over the African team.

Following, Uruguay and England are set to square off Thursday afternoon in a do or die World Cup game at Arena de Sao Paulo in Sao Paulo. The pair clash in a crunch game where the winners will crush any dreams of the loser advancing to the next round.

Therefore, the Three Lions are looking for their first win after their 2-1 lost with a much more talented Italy club. England took alot of positives out of the loss to Italy with an impressive Raheem Sterling in his first World Cup match.

Likewise, Daniel Sturridge scored and Wayne Rooney provided that key pass. While the Manchester United striker was not at his best he was out of position on the left.

On the other hand, Uruguay dropped a 3-1 decision to a very athletic but raw Costa Rican team that pulled off possibly the biggest upset of the tournament through the first wave of games with Luis Suarez on the bench.

In the third and final game of the day, Greece and Japan are expected to take the field Thursday night in the 2014 World Cup at Estadio das Dunas in Natal. If either side loses, they could be on the brink of elimination.

In basically an elimination match, the two teams will battle it out in hopes of keeping their World Cup dreams intact as both sides look for their first victory of the tournament.

The side coached by Fernando Santos opened up their World Cup campaign with a really under whelming performance against Colombia.  Greece was pretty much dominated from start to finish in their 3-0 loss to Pekerman's side after having few opportunities to score with Vassilis Torosidis and Panagiotis Kone.

According to bleacherreport.com, Japan’s loss was simply heartbreaking, as they held a 1-0 lead for much of the match before allowing two goals in 99 seconds to lose against Ivory Coast.
