Dakar delegation inspected Lima’s Costa Verde

Dakar 2016 organizers inspected Lima's oceanfront Costa Verde, located in the Magdalena del Mar district, from where participants will depart on January 3 and then cross Bolivia and reach the Argentine city of Rosario.

The delegation visited public spaces to verify conditions along the Peruvian coast for the installation of the event’s official camp named Village Dakar.

They measured the area and amounts of vehicle and pedestrian traffic. They also outlined security and evacuation measures.

The installation of the camp will take place on December 10, and a car exhibition will run starting on December 23.

Dakar rally will depart symbolically on January 3 from Magdalena del Mar to the Asia beach area, where the official opening will take place.

The caravan will include 3,000 people from 53 countries in 927 vehicles. Of the total, 427 cars belong to the competence (228 quads, 140 SUVs and 59 trucks) 280 are assistance vehicles and the remaining 220 are part of the organization (logistics, press, health care).

The race official start was confirmed after the visit.

Peru will host four stages of the rally. The routes will be: Lima-Pisco, followed by Pisco-Nazca, Nazca-Arequipa and finally Arequipa-Puno.
