Daily Internet usage by Peruvians increased 62.1%

Between April and June 2016, 62.1% of Peru's Population (aged 6 and above) used the Internet on a daily basis; up by 9.4 percentage points compared to the same period last year, the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) reported.

According to an INEI survey, 33.2% of Peruvian citizens used the Internet once a week, whereas 4.8% of them used it once a month or more.

By gender

62.7% of men and 61.4% of women access the web once a day. 

By education

In the analyzed quarter, people with a college degree (89.6%) and non-college degree (77.3%) used the Internet in greater proportion. 

According to INEI, these figures denoted increases of 3.2 and 12.3 percentage points for each group from the same period last year. 

Likewise, populations with high-school education (48.5%) and with primary or lower-level education (17.7%) also access the web. 

Cell phones

From the total population (aged 6 and above) using the Internet, 17.6% access the web from their cell phones; a similar proportion does it (17.6%) from home.

Such figure is followed by those who join the web from public Internet booths (17.4%), home and cell phones (13.5%), household, work and mobile phones (7.0%), only at work (2.5%), merely at someone else's house (2.4%), educational facilities (1.3%) and in two or more places (20.4%).
 
In Lima’s Metropolitan Area, 50.2% of households have Internet access, up by 4.6 percentage points from the same quarter last year (45.6%).

It was followed by urban area (up by 2.5 percentage points) climbing from 24.9% to 27.4%.
