Tourism-related sales in Cusco were up 143% in 2014 totaling more than US$140,000 and benefiting 225 families, informed Peru’s Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, Magali Silva.

Silva said her portfolio assisted, among others, agricultural, agribusiness, fishing producers and artisans to achieve sales of S/.452,000 (about US$146,991) in 2014, a 143% surge compared to the previous year.

Cusco producers’ sales amounted to S/.186,000 (about US$60,487) in 2013 and to S/.55,000 (about US$17,886) in 2012.

“This is good news, because 225 families have been supported thanks to the work done by the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur),” said the minister after noting the recognition given to tourism service providers involved in the initiative.

Mincetur recognized tourist service providers for their ongoing purchases to producers in the region. A total of 33 joined the initiative Al Turista, lo Nuestro, aimed at supplying tourists with local products.
