For third year in a row, Cusco city has been named top destination in the Mexico & Central & South America category of the U.S. travel magazine Travel+Leisure, which conducted a survey aimed at its readers and frequent travelers.

The results of the poll, held every year, were published on the magazine’s website. The printed version will be released on 17th July, the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) informed.

Mincetur’s Head Magali Silva stressed the importance of the survey, because in the last 20 years the recognition given by such magazine has converted various destinations into major benchmarks in the travel industry.

These annual surveys are used to track trends and measure satisfaction at hotels, airports, cruise ships, destinations, among others.

He said “the results have been posted online. Cusco is positioned higher than cities such as Mexico City, Rio de Janeiro, Buenos Aires and Lima,” which are placed on the list in that order. “This proves our cultural heritage and hotel infrastructure are placed among the top of the world,” he underlined.

This is the eighth time Cusco has been named among the best cities in the region and the third time it takes the first place.

It should be noted that five Peruvian hotels have been rated as the Best Central & South America Hotels. Lima-based Belmond Miraflores Park ranks first in the “City Hotels” category.
