The economist for Peru of investment bank Credit Suisse, Juan Lorenzo Maldonado, predicted the inflation in Peru will see a downward trend in February, staying under 3% on an annualized basis.

It should be noted the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) will inform tomorrow about February’s inflation result for Lima Metropolitan area.

Maldonado estimated that February’s inflation will be 0.25%, with which it will accumulate an annual interest rate of 2.7%.

The February inflationary figures and those in annualized terms are slightly lower than the market’s average forecasts of 0.30% and 2.8%, respectively, according to a survey conducted by Bloomberg.

The economist also projected the inflation in February will return to the Central Reserve Bank’s target range.

“If our projections are correct, February would be the first month –since September 2014– that annualized inflation has stayed within the target range of the issuing entity,” affirmed the economist.

National statistics agency said inflation in Lima Metropolitan area rose to 0.17% in January this year and the consumer-price index rose 3.07% in the 12-month period through January.
