Peru Foreign Affairs minister, Gonzalo Gutierrez, expressed today Peruvian leadership displayed at the Conference of the Parties (COP20) was "tangible and evident" and led to the creation of the Lima Call for Climate Action.

The document collected "everyone's interests."

The minister told official TV station Tv Peru the nation’s role in the summit was “relevant”, which turned the country into a regional mid-power in Latin America.

“Regarding COP20, this [Peruvian] leadership has been tangible and evident. Its organization was impeccable [...] it puts the country on a display case for the world [to see],” he expressed.

Peru “had an important role” in the negotiation team led by Environment minister,” he added referring to Manuel Pulgar-Vidal, who held the COP20 Presidency.

The COP20 Presidency “had a firm hand” to welcome proposals by different parties, keep the best proposals and put it all together in one document, the Foreign Affairs minister highlighted.

The Lima Call for Climate Action reflects the best of the parties’ positions, he added.

The agreement draft is "binding" on topics such as: mitigation, technology transference, financial support to developing countries. It also introduces the concept of “common, but differentiated responsibilities.”

The Lima declaration established commitments to work jointly on climate change related negotiations and to adding resources to the Green Climate Fund, he noted.
