Colombia seeks to strengthen existing relations with Peru during Pedro Pablo Kuczynski's new administration, President Juan Manuel Santos announced.

"We rely on a strong collaboration with Peru, which is expected to remain in place and be reinforced now under President Kuczynski's administration," Santos told RRP radio and TV station.

He also noted Peru and Colombia share a rich Amazon jungle, where joint efforts are currently undertaken to ensure protection from threats such as drug-trafficking.

The Pacific Alliance, bloc composed of both nations along with Chile and Mexico, was also highlighted by Santos.

"It is the most successful integration process in the history of Latin America [...] which aims to reinforce and deepen relations among four member countries on economic and trade-related matters [...]," the dignitary affirmed.

As is known, Pedro Pablo Kuczynski was officially named President of the Republic of Peru on Thursday July 28.
