Due to the need for strengthening cooperation on security and defense, in order to protect both nations from cross-border crimes, the Chancellors of Peru Ana Maria Sanchez and Colombia Maria Angela Holguin agreed to convene the Political Coordination Mechanism known as "2+2" that gathers both nations’ Defense and Foreign Affairs Ministries.

As well, both diplomats agreed to convene the 3rd Meeting of the Judicial Cooperation and Security High-Level Mechanism (MAN).

The Colombian Chancellor paid a working visit to Peru yesterday in response to an invitation issued by her Peruvian counterpart.

Both Chancellors expressed their satisfaction with regard to the excellent status of bilateral relations. It is favored by the coincidences and multiple participation in main regional consultation and coordination mechanisms as are: Unasur, Community of Latin American and the Caribbean States (ECLAC); and Andean Community of Nations (CAN) and the Pacific Alliance at the subregional level.

The Ministers verified the level of compliance on agreements signed in the 1st Binational Cabinet, which took place in Iquitos last September. On that opportunity, four main topics were addressed: Governance, social matters & sustainable development; economic development, trade & tourism; security & defense and border affairs.

The Chancellors also assessed the measures taken with the aim of putting into practice the Development Plan for the Border Integration Zone. The 1st Meeting of the Binational Commission for the said plan will be convened next July, it was announced.

Finally, both Ministers inked an agreement designed to prevent, conduct research and prosecute human trafficking. The document also aims at assisting and protecting the victims.

These actions prove both countries’ willingness towards strengthening coordination and cooperation to face this serious crime.
