More than 5,000 tourists are expected to flock to Colca Valley, one of the best-known tourist hubs in southern Peru, during Independence Day holidays, said Jesus Yucra, manager of Colca Autonomous Authority (Autocolca).
"Colca Valley welcomes an average of 800 tourists a day, figure that could rise to 1,200 or 1,250 visitors daily during this four-day holiday weekend," he told Andina News Agency.

Likewise, Autocolca's official noted the number of domestic visitors increases during this season, as many Peruvians take advantage of mid-year holidays to visit tourist spots in the country’s inner regions.

"Tourists who choose to visit southern Peru, prefer to flock to Arequipa region and go sightseeing in Colca Valley, an area known for its natural landscapes and its deep canyon," he added.

Yucra further said that tourists will have the opportunity to visit other tourist sites around Colca area such as El mirador de la Cruz del Condor and stunning colonial churches.

"In addition, various cultural and culinary festivities marking Peru's Independence Day are scheduled to take place in Chivay, the main village of the Colca Valley," he said.

The Colca Valley, approximately 160 kilometers from Arequipa, is a colorful Andean valley with pre-Inca roots and towns founded in Spanish colonial times. It is home to the magnificent Andean condor.
